Visiting the Red Light Market this afternoon, Vice President Joseph N. Boakai engaged members of the Liberia Marketing Association, hailing them for embarking on the course that has strengthened their new found unity. The Vice President then made a token donation of 60 bundles of high grade roofing zinc to help them refurbish their market stall.

It will be recalled that a few years ago, various factions of the LMA were embroiled in a bitter fight rendering the Association practically inoperative. In their yearning for peace, the Marketers, at the behest of the Government, turned to Vice President Boakai to broker an amicable end. A long series of investigative and re-conciliatory sessions were held with great support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), leading to the resolution of the critical issues. The VP then engaged the National Elections Commission which came in and supervised elections which produced a popularly accepted single leadership.

The Leadership of LMA headed by its National President, Madam Lusu Sloan, welcomed the VP and serenaded him for his prowess at fostering peace and reconciliation. She lauded the VP for the exemplary show of tolerance and patience during the acrimonious days of conflict resolution in the LMA. She thanked the VP for the donation and assured that the LMA will continue to build on their peace and unity.
