Vice President Joseph N. Boakai was today, Thursday, July 28, 2016, on hand at the Roberts International Airport (RIA) to receive Togolese Prime Minister Komi Selom Klassou who is in the country to deputize for his President, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbe, at the High Level Ebola Meeting. In November of 2014, at the height of the Ebola attack, West African leaders appointed President Faure Gnassingbe to supervise the Region’s efforts to contain the deadly Ebola epidemic. The Monrovia Meeting, being held at the Monrovia City Hall, brings together representatives of 6 West African countries that were directly affected by the Ebola Virus Disease–Liberia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Senegal, and Mali–to discuss the creation of a platform for the forth-coming AFRO Meeting set for late August. The objective of the Meeting is to catalyze input and mobilization by West African leaders on recommendations from the various proposals for global systemic reforms in the wake of the Ebola outbreak. Liberian President & Chairperson of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, Her Excellency Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is presiding over the Conference.
